Preparation and Evaluation of Ammonium Adipate Solutions as Inhibitors of Shale Rock Swelling

This study aimed to evaluate the inhibitory effect of a series ammonium adipate solutions (AASs) by using linear expansion test, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and particle size distribution analysis, examine underlying mechanism. A AASs was prepared from adipic acid amines as small-molecule inhibitors oil shale rock swelling. They were then evaluated bentonite test. The best one, namely, AAS-8 (synthesized with tetraethylenepentamine in ratio group amine 1:2), water-based drilling fluid. test showed that rate lowest (59.61%) when concentration 0.1%. evaluation fluid revealed had strong on swelling hydrated particles compatible carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) modified starch. inhibition mechanism investigated TGA which demonstrated might enter clay layer bind sheets together electrostatic adsorption hydrogen bonding.
